Step Stone campaign extends to all veterans and active military

The Alabama Veterans Memorial Foundation is making it possible for all US veterans
to secure a special place of remembrance at the Alabama Veterans Memorial Park.

Engraved 8" X 4" markers will bear the name of any US veteran or military unit donors wish to honor. A tax-deductible donation of $100 secures a permanent and personal place of recognition for any military serviceman, servicewoman or unit from the State of Alabama. A portion of proceeds will support veterans organizations which are participating in the StepStone campaign.

Engraved upon the inner walls of the Alabama Veterans Memorial are names of more than 11,000 soldiers who gave their lives in wars of the 20th century. Now the names of all US veterans have the opportunity to be recognized through this StepStone campaign...

Veterans Day Parade...November 11, 2011

Birmingham, Alabama plays host each year to the largest Veterans Day parade in the USA. Marching bands, soldiers, horsemen, motorcades, patriots young and old will parade through downtown Birmingham, while thousands of spectators wave Old Glory in honor of America's brave veterans.

History of the Veterans Day Parade
In 1918, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month, the world rejoiced and celebrated. After four years of bitter war, an armistice was signed. The "war to end all wars" was over.

November 11, 1919 was set aside as Armistice Day in the United States, to remember the sacrifices that men and women made during World War I in order to ensure a lasting peace. On Armistice Day, soldiers who survived the war marched in a parade through their hometowns. Birmingham lays claim to the oldest and largest of these parades, as the city prepares to stage its 55th annual Veterans Day celebration.

Parade Route
The parade begins at 8th Avenue North and 19th Street. The procession heads south on 19th Street to 5th Avenue North, east on 5th Avenue to 21st Street, south on 21st Street to 2nd Avenue North, west on 2nd Avenue to 18th Street, north on 18th Street to 6th Avenue North.
