The Park Board has created an Education Committee which will focus on honoring our veterans through education. We would like to invite anyone interested in education to be involved on this committee with our board members.
One goal is to educate our youth about the triumphs and sacrifices made by veterans, using the information displayed at the Park. Another form of education might be to provide veterans with needed information or services such as financial counseling at the Park office.
Mission Statement for the Alabama Veterans Memorial Foundation:
The Alabama Veterans Memorial Foundation, Inc. will create and maintain the Alabama Veterans Memorial Park dedicated to honoring Alabama veterans of all military services from the twentieth century forward through education and remembrance.
The 2016 goal for this committee is to create and implement at least two new projects that further the AMPF’s mission statement of “honoring through education.”
Our first meeting will be held at 5:00PM on January 25th at the Park office. During this meeting we will brainstorm educational ideas; after the meeting, the attendees can decide if they would like to serve on this committee and be more involved in the implementation of the selected ideas. Please contact Lulu Richardson if you plan to attend: 205 912-2019 or email@example.com.
Friends of Veterans Volunteer Corps
The Alabama Veterans Memorial Park is maintained exclusively by volunteers. Some volunteers serve each month while others have time to help only occasionally. Many help during the Memorial Day and Veterans Day weekend Patriotic Programs. These dedicated men and women serve in many different capacities from fund raising to greeting visitors to picking up trash. All are needed and greatly appreciated.
The “Friends of Veterans” Volunteer Corps has recently expanded to include a group of volunteer greeters who take two or three hour shifts in the park office assisting visitors. More volunteer greeters are needed! Even if you can only serve once a month it would be a great service.
